Brisbane North and Sunshine Coast Zone Rally Day, 2025
Brisbane North & Sunshine Coast Zone Rally – April 8th, 2025
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, CABOOLTURE.
Theme: “What’s in a Name” Isaiah 43:1b
The sunny day was the perfect setting for an outdoor morning tea where members from all parts of the zone greeted each other and visited the ‘Bring and Buy’ stall which raised in excess of $150.00 for farmers out west via Charity Care Outreach
St. Paul’s president, Mavis Thamm, welcomed visitors and guests to share in the day, the Theme of which was, ‘What’s in a Name’. (Which left me to ponder; now that Ruth has stood down as President of the Zone, to be President of LWA – are we now a ‘Ruthless’ bunch of women?)
Devotions: Both the opening and closing devotions were led by Lois Kube, based on the theme of the day ‘What’s in a Name’. Lois spoke about how important a name is to a person, and how parents ponder over what to name their child to give them a good start in life. She reminded us the most important thing to remember is Isaiah 43:1&2. “The Lord who created you says: Do not be afraid for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you”. God knows your name!
Reports: In the absence of the Bishop, Narelle Jefferd read his report. In the absence of the LWQ president, Val Kath, Ruth Geitz read Val’s report. Ruth also gave her report as Zone President. Pam Flesser gave the treasurers report.
The Zone Project for 2025-26 is LYQ – Fostering Youth to become leaders at LYQ Youth camps for the younger children. The offering of $1,120.00 will be given to Asia Focus. Furthering the ministry in South East Asia.
Guest Speaker: Pastor John Heffernan. John spent 30 years working mostly in remote communities in the west and south of Alice Springs as a teacher linguist for the NT government and then for the L.C.A through FRM as a church-worker linguist. Although there are 250 distinct languages, John was able to point out the similarities in some of the words. He also mentioned that in translating Christian material into the native language, could run into problems because there was no word in the native language for the word in English; eg. Angel. John enlightened us to the meaning of the names of several towns and cities. Caboolture means Place of the Carpet Snake.
