WEST MORETON ZONE RALLY DAY

9th April 2025 at St John’s Lutheran Church Kalbar.

Theme: “Grow in Grace” 2 Peter 3 v 18a

After driving through the scenic country side which was so green after the recent rain, we began with a delicious morning tea provided by the Kalbar Lutheran Ladies. Pastor Peter Geyer, WMZ Spiritual Advisor, took the opening devotion based on the text for the morning. He asked us to define Grace. We deserve God’s punishment but instead we get God’s riches at Christ’s expense. Through Faith, we are saved by God’s Grace. We receive God’s amazing Grace through baptism, confirmation and Holy Communion. We are heirs of heaven. Our salvation was achieved when Jesus died on the cross.

Both Elaine Regeling (Kalbar) and Faye Gutzke (WMZ President) welcomed us to WMZ Rally Day.

Guest speaker: Samantha Caves from “Carinity Fassifern Community Centre”, explained that the Centre supports residents in the Scenic Rime to learn new skills, connect with the local community and access services in a friendly and inclusive environment. The services offered are endless. We were all amazed by the list of activities and services: social events, training, exercise, music, community café and BBQ, Centrelink Agent, no interest loans scheme, meeting spaces, visiting allied health professionals, free haircuts, counselling and the list goes on. We wondered how Samantha could keep track of everything and still find time to apply for grants and coordinate the running of the Centre. Boonah is blessed to have this facility which is an outreach of the Queensland Baptists. Carol Scheiwe presented Samantha with the gift of a quilt made by WMZ President Faye Gutzke. The offering of $320.50 will go to support the Community Centre.

Elections: We are blessed to have a full WMZ executive after struggling for some years to fill all the positions.

President: Faye Gutzke, 1st VP Carol Scheiwe, 2nd VP Melva Giess,

Secretary: Jan Fischer,  Treasurer: Doreen Pocknee, Extra members: Maureen Itzstein and Shirley Muller. Nominations Convener: Delma Barrett.

Pastor Peter Geyer installed the executive and gave the closing devotion.

Pr. Peter encouraged us to keep on growing in Faith by attending worship, partaking of Holy Communion, praying, sharing our Faith and meeting with other Christians.

We enjoyed lunch together and chatting to members of the LWQ Executive and members of the various guilds in the West Moreton Zone before travelling home.
